Legacy

Don learned to love Switzerland as he frequently crossed it during his professional activities and he finally settled in Via Golf, Caslano just after the war.

Are the numerous Swiss courses he designed and built such as: Gurten, Arosa, Vulpera, Lenzerheide, Interlaken, Lausanne, Bad Ragaz, Beintenloo, Schönenberg, Niederbüren, Gstaad, Davos, Zumikon and Bonmont typical of his signature?

His strength was the creation of highly interesting courses using very little land and a very small construction budget, an art and specialty which he fully mastered. The fact that he always tried to enhance the natural attributes of the site instead of destroying or taking anything away from the surrounding environment was always clearly recognizable.

Every challenge was always tackled and resolved with bravery.

His designs were perfect especially if the initial problems were extremely complicated and this perfection was achieved without the help of modern topographical surveys and computer aided designs.

A delight for every standard of player and a challenge for the aficionados was what he always tried to achieve.

Don Harradine considered one of his most important milestones to be the golf course he designed in Athens (Glyfada) and one of his most important events was the meeting he had with Gerald Ford in the United States. Don designed over 300 courses during his distinguished career. His influence is visible everywhere in Western and Eastern Europe.
